
Google Search Console is a free feature offered by Google to assist website owners to monitor their website’s performance in Google search results.
This is an important tool to include in your website as it assist you to track search rankings along with keeping you updated about site errors, security issues, and indexing issues that may affect your website’s search performance.
You can add your WordPress Website to Google Search Console by following these easy steps:
- Install and activate the Insert Headers and Footers plugin to your WordPress site
- Visit the Google Search Console website and choose “Start Now”
- Sign in to your Google or Gmail account
- Enter your website URL into the URL Prefix box. If you are unsure what your correct website URL is, visit the General Settings on your Dashboard and copy the “Site Address(URL)” address
- Verify the ownership of your website by clicking on the HTML tag to expand it and then copy the code inside the box
- Add this Google site verification meta tag in WordPress, so Google can verify that you are the owner of the website
- Go to Settings » Insert Headers and Footers page and paste the Google HTML tag code you copied inside the ‘Scripts in Header’ box.
- Save your changes and then return to the Google Search Console website to verify your ownership
If you don’t see a success message, then you need to clear your WordPress cache. This will ensure that Google can fetch the latest version of your website.
After following the above-mentioned steps, you should have successfully added your website to Google Search Console. You can now click on the ‘Go to Property’ link to visit your Google Search Console dashboard.
